Early Sunday Walk
TAKE NOTICE that Finn will not be going to Thomson Memorial Park (in Scarborough) today, because (a) the family automobile is at the shop for repair and (b) he already went for his morning walk.
You may be wondering "Where did Finn walk today and how was the weather this moring?"
Well well well, the weather was easy, breezy and beautiful.
Finn walked on Church Street, Main Street, Wilson Street, Water Street, Homestead Court, Robinson Street, Hawkridge Avenue, Highway 7, Parkway Avenue and more.
Finn walked ok today for a period of just shy of two hours. His walk began at approximately 6:15 a.m. and ended at rougly 8:05 a.m. Finn pulled near the end of his walk twice, both times were towards other dogs. It is a behaviour I do not like but am too lazy to correct (ie. too hard to correct, no patience to correct, etc.).
Why do I not like this behaviour? (a) It does not look good to others. (b) It can cause harm.
Why may this behaviour be hard to correct? Sometimes it is hard to get Finn's attention when he sees another dog. When he is exhibiting this behaviour, I am already occupied with controlling him with force. Once he is under control, which means the others have passed with or without greeting, it's too late to lecture or praise him. I can control Finn but I cannot control the actions of others so I never know what his behaviour (which I do not like) might lead us to. I prefer commanding with the leash as oppose to dog treats. I don't like to carry too much stuff during our walks or stop too many times. Finn stops enough to smell trees, plants and etc. so I do not want to add to his stop by asking him to sit and giving him treats. In fact, Finn started sitting recently without treat when he sees other dogs. He might have notice that humans or dog handlers like the sitting and/or down behaviour so he do it in order to continue to move forward towards a direction that he prefers. Doesn't work with me though, I am still pulling the opposite direction! HA!
I like to walk and explore paths and trails so I don't spend a lot of time with Finn at the Park socializing with others or doing some activities at like a soccer field, football field or baseball diamond.
I guess what I am trying to say is that today was not a Park day for Finn.
